Countdown 'Til Daddy Comes Home Review & Giveaway!!!

Book Trailer:

Review:
Countdown 'til Daddy Comes Home is one of the sweetest written and illistrated books for children who's daddy's travel or deploy for their jobs. The Author Kristin Ayyar, a fellow Military Wife, worded the book perfectly to hit both Civilian Children AND Military Kiddos!

Throughout the story the little boy expresses his desire to see his daddy, how he wishes he could have fit in his suitcase or the care package they send to him, and how much he misses him. I love how the little boy says and does many of the same things I have seen my own son go through during deployments, long trainings and the long distance relationship he has with his own father. The story shares the feelings that the little boy has as well as different ways that he and the family come together to make the time pass as quickly as possible.

The ideas that help him and the family stay connected with daddy while he is away are wonderful, a few of which I have done with my oldest and many new ideas that the baby, man-child and I will do together during the next deployment or long training exercise.

Going through deployments with children is tough, not only for the parent left stateside to run the home and family, but for the child/children who cannot always grasp the concept of not being able to see or talk to daddy as they normally would if he were coming home nightly. Countdown 'til Daddy Comes Home goes through an entire out of country business trip (deployment) of the little boy's daddy to his homecoming and the ways he, his older sister and mommy prepare for his arrival.

The end of the story has a section dedicated to discussion questions to cover with your child before & during a deployment as well as preparing for daddy's homecoming. A great way to help your kiddo through the deployment that he/she too is greatly affected by. The very end has different fun and sweet ideas on how you and your child/children can countdown together. I recently found out (yesterday) that the First Lady of the Marine Corps has established a recommended reading list for Wives as well as Children... I hope to see this book on there soon, it is definitely one that young military children can relate to and enjoy while daddy is away, and one that mommy's can use as a guide to help the children through it.
